Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' Now on YouTube for ₹100 – Post Theatrical Success
Mumbai – In the wake of a box-office success, Aamir Khan’s sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par is now available to watch digitally — with a twist. The film has been released on YouTube via Aamir Khan Talkies’ official YouTube channel, but unlike typical OTT releases, viewers will need to pay ₹100 to have the privilege to view the movie.
This move is the first-of-its-kind digital strategy by Aamir Khan himself, who had previously, in interviews, stated that the movie will not be heading to OTT platforms anytime soon. Now, it seems that the digital release delay was a deliberate attempt to promote the theater experience, with the YouTube release being a controlled, pay-view model rather than free streaming.
About the Film: Sitaare Zameen Par
Starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports drama film with a heartwarming story based on the 2018 Spanish film Campeones (Champions). The film showcases the inspiring story of special children and how sports and counselling change their lives.
Receiving good reviews and excellent audience connect, the film became a word-of-mouth success, pulling the audience week by week.
Box Office Journey
Although it had a slow start, the film picked up steam over the opening weekend and had a lengthy run at the box office:
Day Trade Figure (₹ Crore) Producer Figure (₹ Crore)
First Weekend :
Day 1 (Friday) 10.5 10.7
Day 2 (Saturday) 19 19.9
Day 3 (Sunday) 26.5 26.7
Final Collection (up to Day 35):

Worldwide Gross Total: ₹251.56 crore
Budget & Verdict
Budget: ₹90 crore
Hit Mark: ₹100 crore nett India
Verdict: Hit
Aamir Khan, who also made the movie, took the risk with this film. The film boasted a much larger budget than his earlier emotional drama Taare Zameen Par (2007), which was made for a paltry ₹18 crore.
Now Streaming on YouTube — But Not Free
Since August 1, Sitaare Zameen Par is streaming on Aamir Khan Talkies’ YouTube Channel (@AamirKhanTalkies) which currently has more than 346K subscribers.
Though, this is not a traditional free YouTube release. The viewer has to shell out ₹100 to watch the whole movie. The move suggests Aamir is exploring different revenue models of digital releases of films — steering clear of traditional OTT platforms such as Netflix or Amazon Prime and going for direct audience interaction.
Aamir Khan's Honest Take
Although earlier remarks suggested that the movie would not be available online anytime soon, Aamir Khan subsequently admitted,
I had said it won’t come to OTT anytime soon, but I thought of giving theatres a priority. Now that time has passed, we’re taking it to YouTube.”
That frankness from the actor reflects him on his word to revive theatrical culture in India while bending to newer digital norms.
Final Word
With strong theatrical collections and a provocative digital release strategy, Sitaare Zameen Par not only reasserts Aamir Khan’s box office pull but also his evolving vision as a producer.
